Previous | Fifty years ago: the IFCI Chair in Management – May 1975 (May - 2025) | |
Did you know that 50 years ago, in May 1975, the Institute established the prestigious IFCI Chair in Management? This aimed to promote outstanding work in the fields of Industrial Management, Financial Management, and Development Banking. The Industrial Finance Corporation of India (now known as IFCI Limited) endowed the Institute with INR 7 lakhs to establish the IFCI Chair and award doctoral dissertation fellowships. Prof. S. K. Bhattacharyya became the first IFCI Professor of management at IIMA. The establishment of the Chair in May 1975, The first IFCI lecture, and the fellowships awarded during the first three years are highlighted in this month's featured document. Prof. Bhattacharyya was deeply respected by his students and served as a profound source of inspiration for them. We present a video excerpt from the IIMA Archives Oral History Project, in which Prof. Srikant Datar (IIMA PGP 1978, and currently the Dean, Harvard Business School) fondly reflects on Prof. Bhattacharyya's legacy, particularly regarding the IIMA faculty as mentors. Notably, the current Managing Director and CEO, IFCI Limited, Mr. Rahul Bhave, is an alumnus of the IIMA One-Year Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Management and Policy (PGP-PMP) class of 2009. |
