We are currently witnessing the celebration of democracy in India through the General elections taking place in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, 2024. IIMA alumni have participated in the Lok Sabha elections of 2009, 2014, 2019, and now in 2024. As the featured document of the month, we are pleased to present archival details from our Institute alumni magazine showcasing how our alumni have added panache to politics. The feature includes details of alumni who participated in various Lok Sabha elections, such as Ms. Mallika Sarabhai, PGP 1974 (Lok Sabha elections 2009), Mr. Sarathbabu Elumalai, PGP 2006 (Lok Sabha elections 2009), and Mr. Mehmood Khan, PGP 1977 (Lok Sabha elections 2019), along with their coverage in the national media. The document prominently highlights Mr. Prem Das Rai, PGP 1978, who went on to become an elected Member of Parliament from Sikkim for the 15th & 16th Lok Sabha in 2009 & 2014, respectively and whose picture can be found in the new sports complex 'Student's Corner' as he was an avid footballer. Furthermore, the document highlights Mr. Krishna Prasad Tenneti, PGP 1985, who participated and emerged victorious from the Bapatla Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. Additionally, it features Mr. S. G. Ramachandran, PGP 2015, who participated in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections from Coimbatore. Related with the Lok Sabha elections of the past two decades, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), started by former IIMA faculty, is also playing an important role in 'election-watch' by analyzing candidate backgrounds on criminal cases, financial holdings and other details. |
