Renowned architect Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi (August 26, 1927 - January 24, 2023), passed away today at the age of 95. The only Indian to have the Pritzker Architecture Award, considered to be the highest honour in the field, he is associated with the designs of many famous structures, including the campuses of IIMA and IIMB. We interviewed him as part of the IIMA Archives Oral History Project in 2019 and present three video snippets below: - On Getting Louis Kahn to IIMA [4 minutes] - On Bricks at IIMA [2 minutes] - On the significance of the IIMA campus [2 minutes] As a document of the month, we present a photograph of Louis Kahn and a young B. V. Doshi working at NID on the design of the IIMA campus. A few days back we released our first monograph on IIMA's architectural history which also mentions the many contributions of Mr. B. V. Doshi. The IIMA Archives exhibit in Dorm-15 also has items that note the many contributions of Mr. B. V. Doshi. |
