Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (1925-2023) passed away on September 28, 2023, at the age of 98 in Chennai. Dr. M. S. Swaminathan was a highly esteemed agricultural scientist, often referred to as the father of the green revolution. He made significant contributions to the field of agriculture and was recognized for his exceptional work with numerous awards. During his illustrious career, Dr. M. S. Swaminathan also served as a member of the Board of Governors at IIMA from 1969 to 1974 and graced the 12th IIMA Convocation in 1977 as the Chief Guest. As our featured document of the month, we are pleased to present Dr. Swaminathan's photograph and speech as the Chief Guest at the 12th Convocation of IIMA in 1977, where he also shed light on the various challenges faced by agricultural growth at that time and about the valuable contributions made by the institute in developing management approaches for the agricultural sector, highlighting its significance during those times. Additionally, the document highlights the role played by Dr. Swaminathan in securing financial support for the Centre for Management in Agriculture (CMA), at IIMA, and his other associations with the institute. |
