This month's archival snippet brings the spotlight on IIMA alumnus Srikant Datar, who has just been appointed as Dean of the Harvard Business School, succeeding Nitin Nohria, another Indian-origin academic. Srikant Datar has many connections with IIMA. He was a student of the PGP 1976-78 batch, head of IIMA's student body, Student's Affairs Council (SAC) in 1977-78, won the 'Award for Outstanding Overall Performance', was Board Member of IIMA (2012-18) and also stepped in as the Chairperson during the convocation ceremony of 2018 in the absence of K M Birla. More information on him is available on the IIMA archives website on this link and his convocation speech is available on this link. The IIMA Archives team also interviewed him as part of the Oral History Project in October 2018. You can watch snippets from that interview: On his experience of getting admitted to IIMA (3 min video), On student life at IIMA in 1976-78 (5 min), On being the SAC coordinator (2 min), On Prof. S K Bhattacharya as a mentor (3 min), On coping with competition at IIMA (2 min), and on What IIMA means to him (2 min). He was a Dorm-15 resident, incidentally also where the IIMA Archives office is now located. A description of him in the student yearbook of 1978 is attached as the document of the month. |
