This month's archival snippet brings to you the life of an IIMA graduate who treaded an unconventional career: Shakti Maira (1947-2021), PGP 1968, who passed away at the age of 73 on May 9, after a long battle with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Shakti Maira was an artist, philosopher and writer and he did all this professionally after switching away from his management career in consultancy (A F Ferguson), finance (Citibank) and advertising (Lintas) in his 40s. His elder brother, Arun Maira (1943- ), on the other hand, started with a degree in Physics and ended up heading the Boston Consulting Group in India (2000-08) and becoming a member of the Planning Commission. Shakti Maira penned a wonderful article called Life is more than a 'career choice' for the upcoming WIMWIAN alumnus magazine just a few days before he passed away and it is attached here as the document of the month. It illustrates the importance of art in our lives and also the motto - "Follow your bliss". You can see Shakti Maira in his 1968 convocation photograph where Indira Gandhi was the Chief Guest on this link (4th row from bottom, 8th from right) and learn more about him and his art work on https://shaktimaira.com/. |
