K V Ramanathan (1932- ) was a faculty member of IIMA between 1963 and 1966. He started out as a lower division clerk (1949-51) and then became a cost accountant and systems manager for Phillips in Calcutta (1952-60) alongside completing his B.Com from Calcutta University (1954) and becoming Fellow of the Indian Institute of Cost and Works Accountants (1958). He did his MBA at Northwestern University, Illinois, USA (1960-62) and after working at IIMA, completed his PhD at Northwestern in 1970. Since December 1969, he spent his entire academic career at the University of Washington Business School in Seattle, USA until his retirement in 2007. In his interview, he described his upbringing, early professional career, time at IIMA that involved taking the first PGP class in 1964, opening a restaurant with faculty-colleagues in Ahmedabad and coordinating a management development programme and also his life after leaving IIMA. He has also penned a memoir which he shared with IIMA Archives that includes a long section on his time spent in Ahmedabad. |
