A frolicking, uplifting form, this tapering helix sculpture has each arm embracing and encircling the other, as they soar to kiss the skies. They represent the yin-yang-like harmony of life forces that nurture the balance of nature. Inspired by the DNA spiral, the sculpture is adorned by traditional textile motifs from Gujarat. They include numerous textile crafts such as Ikat (special weave), Bandhini (tie & dye), Kutch embroidery, and Ajrakh Block print. The motifs are patterned together in an intricate, quilted tapestry design made with ceramic tiles. The tile artwork on the surface has been custom-designed, presenting the rich textile traditions of the state. It is our respect for the past that nurtures our visions for the future. IIMA's DOL reminds us that staying connected to our identity and learning from the past are the keys to finding the future we pursue. The unbroken chain of tradition is embedded across generations through the genetic code of shared culture. Our cultural identity grounds us and gives us the ability to think ahead with wisdom and clarity.
