Kiran Karnik (1947- ), studied physics in Mumbai and was a student of IIMA (1966-68). After graduation, he worked with Vikram Sarabhai’s team in Mumbai before coming to work with ISRO in Ahmedabad for two decades until 1991. In this time period, he was an active member of the Ahmedabad alumni chapter, supported student projects of the institute and commissioned a ISRO documentary on IIMA in the late 1980s. After ISRO, he was instrumental in setting up Discovery Channel in India, was President of NASSCOM (2001-07) and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007. He was also a member of IIMA’s Board of Governors, working with three IIMA Directors. In this interview, he reflects on his early upbringing, his time at IIMA as a student, his career with ISRO and his connection with IIMA during his two-decade stint in Ahmedabad as well as later on as a Board member.
